5days4arts is a fundraising campaign for the PS29 PTA. We hope to raise money to plug budget cuts and keep our music, art and drama programs strong. Come back each day this week to see a new video that highlights our wonderful collaborative arts programming. You can help by being social and forwarding this to friends and family. Post to Facebook and Twitter and email. Make an impact!

For a little more background, a recent New York Times article covered the layoffs and budget cuts that loom:

Supporters of arts in the schools complain that art, music, theater and dance are among the first subjects to suffer when budgets are tight. A new survey of New York City schools shows that this may, indeed, be the case.

While we’ve focused on the arts for just five days, in reality we need to support arts enrichment for our kids all year round. The PS29 PTA, with your generous support, pledges to maintain a robust arts program

URGENT: PLEASE READ
Despite averting teacher layoffs, there will still be budget cuts at every school in New York City. The average cut is 2.4%, which translates into one teacher for our school. We already are grappling with class sizes that approach or even exceed what the district mandates. Please help our children by continuing to be generous.

Special thanks to Michael Epstein for all his help filming and coordinating the editing (done by Jenni Malone) of these videos. Dawn Pender deserves praise (as always) for her help scheduling the teachers and children you see. Thank you also to the parents of PS29 for their continued generosity – none of this is possible without you.
